Canines Are Purely Pack Animals - Understand The Implication of This
When a person owns a dog, it is imperative that he learns about the dog, so that he can understand and communicate with Fido. Why?
It is critical that you completely understand that dogs are a pack animal. And at one time, dogs hunted together as a single unit, so that they would not perish.
They hunted together and prospered; and there was of course a pecking order. Let's take this into the present moment now, shall we. Think about it the way Cesar, the dog whisperer would. It is difficult for we humans to discern whether they are becoming a part of our family (that is, a dog joining the "human pack") or we are merging with them (a human becoming a part of the pack).
How To Speak Dog:
It is Likely Your Dog Will Be More Self Assured if You Take the Time to Train and Understand Him
What is clear from this is that dogs have a deep down need to belong, or be part of "the pack".
When you are at the same level with the animal (i.e., you are down at eye level), you will be able to analyze the situation and uncover something about that particular dog's attitude. This can be helpful information, for instance, in choosing a family dog.
To expound even further, it is helpful to be at "eye level" so that you are close enough to witness the dogs reactions to you, even its posture. If the dog is in retreat, this is a reaction which shows the dog is very ill at ease and chances are you should just walk away. In the end, this must be considered carefully.
Aggressive Dog Behavior -
Dog Gestures
If a dog is ominous, what would the characteristics be? Or if your dog is approached agressively by someone elses dog when you are out for some exercise, what behavior does this other animal exude? Is barking a type of communication among dogs with precise significance, or is it just inconsequential?
Dogs tend to communicate with each other more with gestures and body posture than with audible sounds. They have a wide range of facial expressions, body stances and gestures, and they instinctively communicate with one another by scent. Do you realize that it is commonly known that when dogs bark at night, they are simply working off some excess energy?
Body Language - Dog
If a dog goes up to his owner and sounds off, it could be that he needs the attention. He could indeed just need some company, because you were away all day. But you will likely make uneducated guesses about this unless you devour a dog book on the subject of the body language of canines, or analyze a dog body language chart. I bet you are surprised to learn of this! Truly there is help. And if a pet owner puts in the hours on this wonderful topic, the result cannot help but delight and surprise.
Restaurants for Dogs or Dog Olympics, Anyone?
A canine who shares an exceptionally close bond with his owner may have developed a comprehension of a number of words, or commands. Should this be the case, there is a relationship already established - yet why stop there?
You may want to explore the notion of dog olympics for your dog; or providing your dog with behavior training. For instance, many restaurants in California will permit an obedient well trained dog in the finer restaurants - in case you would wish to explore this further. And some of the higher priced hotels do let owners bring their dogs; while a deposit might be necessary, it is an option for you. You might be happier if you could take your loved one along on a vacation with you.
Dog Dominance
Here is food for thought: does a dog who wishes to show another dog dominance do something specific? What if your dog is choosing to submit to another animal? What course of action does he undertake?
Well, when a dog is indicating submission, he would try and make himself appear small - by lowering himself and crouching down or placing his tail between his legs, or both. Also, this dog often will have his ears laid down flat. And if your dog is wanting to show "dog dominance", he will instinctively find a way to appear larger and more threatening. He has a logical solution - by raising up his back to increase his height, and staring at the other dog; he is acknowledged by the lesser dog. He holds his head high in defiance, as well.
And a dog wishing to assert his dominance, could take a perpendicular position (an upright stance). Isnt that enlightening? Many people are misguided and think that with a female dog, no alpha behaviors like 'marking' or 'humping' are actually displayed. Hah - this belief is misguided. My own female poodle has repeatedly performed the humping behavior (with my favorite pillow). And the humping behavior is not just known to be a normal behavior, when a female dog is in heat; It also is done to signify dog dominance. This is well known to be an alpha behavior.
Now we are getting somewhere. You are learning that it is not accurate that there are behaviors displayed solely by the male dog. Were you aware frequently female dogs are more stubborn and can be moodier than a male dog? Males are loyal and true, very devoted to their human person. My male teacup poodle used to sleep on my back; and he did not budge the whole night. And he never had to get up in the middle of the night to go outside.
Dog Gestures
When a dog extends his paw it is a sign he loves you. And something I learned with my poodle dog: he would run in circles (do donuts) to get my attention and show me he wanted to play! Also, your pup may want to go outside to play, and may indicate this by running at the door; knowing some basic dog gestures is something which can only assist you.
Pups and Play Biting
Dogs in the play mode sometimes do nipping or "play-biting". Pups, specifically will tend to "nip"; they have pointy little teeth which will tear into human skin. It is rather essential to
adjust your pups behavior while he is young , unless you want to run the risk of injury.
Dog Test
Did you realize that dogs are able to understand the significance of pointing? It is true. I checked with an online authority, and they explain that
according to a study by Gabriella Lakatos and her colleagues at University of Budapest in Hungary, dogs are truly capable of recognizing the significance of pointing! An official study was performed with 2 year old and 3 year old kids and the dogs. Two flower pots with either a toy or a treat was utilized for the test. The idea was to find out the different responses that all 3 groups had (2 year old & 3 year old children), and the canines. There was just one test - where a person pointing stood with her arm across her chest, elbow protruding to the left and finger pointing to the right. The point was that the 3 year old children responded better to a pointing index finger, while the two-year-old children and the dog would follow the elbow. Fascinating, what you do not know but can learn about animals.
Playful Dogs
Nose nudging is a sign that a dog is dying to play. And when a dog has a wagging tail, of course this is a healthy sign; unless of course, he is an abused animal and has a severe injury which precludes him from playing. Then he is merely showing affection to you.
Now, the usual "play posture" is one with forehead crouched down and hind quarters high and tail extended; also, the animal has bright, cheerful eyes and a tail that is wagging. He may even give a little yap. Conversely, an aggressor has the rigid stance, a steady gaze, and a trembling tail (held high). In a dog, a high, steady tail exudes confidence while the tail that is slightly lowered indicates that this dog is submitting to the superior animal or is ill.
Another sort of gesturing that a dog may elect is extending his paw to you. He just might be reminding you he is there and is inciting you to play; on the other hand if he extends his paw and averts his eyes, this can imply that he is asking for your forgiveness for something. Kindly remember this.
When an owner truly cares, he would take the time to learn each and every detail about exercise for his adorable pet, as well as proper nutrition, pet health insurance, veterinary care, necessary shots, grooming, etcetera. Moreover, he should put forth the effort to devour something on training his dog, and bonding with his pet. Then both dog and owner will have a happier life. When a loving person takes on the responsibility of pet ownership, it is just that - a responsibility. The pet owner, in my opinion, may as well get educated and go the extra mile. Thus, consider more than only getting a book. Take a look at the Dog Whisperer's program, for example. Do all you can; You will reap the rewards. He will adore you for it. Hopefully, you have gotten something out of this. You will be met with undying love. Your animal will absolutely know the extra effort you are putting into his care, and he will love you. To sum it all up, an owner who pays his dog the courtesy of "listening" to him can find the friendship he desires. Then trust will evolve, which can be to your advantage. For example, if he finds danger (traffic, for one possibility) - and you call out for your loved one, he will listen to you if he has been properly trained. A responsible and loving pet owner, who tries to ascertain his dogs best features and strong points may well reap dividends, because of it. For his canine friend will learn that his owner only has his best interests at heart, and will learn to instinctively trust his owner. A good connection can develop when you pursue your education in this area. Put your money into some dog training.
